Psalm 86: 7, 12,13
I call on You in the day of my distress, for You will answer me.... Teach me Your way, Yahweh, and I will live by Your truth. Give me an undivided mind to fear Your name. I will praise You with all my heart, Lord my God, and will honor Your name forever.
Psalm 86 is so beautiful. David was crying out to God for courage at a time when his enemies were trying to kill him. After he made his petitions for help to God, he then praised and worshiped the Lord for His power, trustworthiness, and goodness.
We all have stress in our lives. More than 50% of patients that I’ve seen at Tenpenny Integrative Medical Center in the last year or so lists ‘anxiety’ and/or ‘insomnia’ as their chief complaint.
At those moments, I wish I could toss all the ‘medical work up stuff’ out the window and simply pray with these folks.
I would pray they would lay their worries at the foot of the Cross.
I would pray they would keep their eyes fixed on Him instead of the problem.
I would pray the Be Attitudes with them – reminding them that worry doesn’t add a day to their life.
I would pray that they be assured God is in control and He doesn’t want them to have a divided mind – split between worry and rest. He wants us to rest in Him.
I would pray for them to embrace the Lord’s promise that He will never abandon us in times of stress.
Read all of Psalm 86. Embrace it. Make these passages come alive in your heart and your mind.
Let’s use David’s word for Today’s Prayer:
“Listen, Lord, and please answer me, for I am poor and needy. Protect my life, for I am faithful. You are my God; save Your servant who trusts in You. Be gracious to me, Lord, for I call out to You all day long. Bring joy to Your servant’s life, because I turn to You, Lord. You are kind and ready to forgive, rich in faithful love to all who call on You.
Lord, hear my prayer; listen to my plea for mercy. Lord, there is no one like You and there are no works like Yours. All the nations You have made will bow down before You, Lord, and will honor Your name. For You are great and perform wonders. You alone are God."
Teach us Your ways, Abba Father, so we can better live Your truth. Give us an undivided mind to worship and honor Your name.
We will praise You with all our heart, and will honor Your name forever. We pray for forgiving hearts towards those who have harmed us, mentally, physically, or emotionally.
We pray that Your people, who live in this Country, will repent on its knees. We pray Your people, called by Your name, will seek Your face and turn from their wicked ways. We pray our country will be saved by Your grace before we are brought to our knees by Your wrath. We thank You for Your love. We ask for Your will to become paramount in our lives. We ask all these things, in Jesus’ holy name. Amen.

Amen. I love to pray the scriptures as prayers. When my daughter was young and very sick, I prayed Psalms 91 so much that I memorized it. I love how Father uses that entire prayer to teach me so much. Thank you for sharing this and all that you do. I feel your heart, and it’s beautiful. 🙏🏼💕💖
Beautiful! Thank you for taking the time and effort to write this post.
It reminds me of a question that I was once asked…which I share with anyone dealing with fear and anxiety. I ask this simple question: Why wasn’t David afraid of Goliath? A normal person would have been struck with the absolute fear of their upcoming brutal death. We would think, Goliath is 10X my size, stronger, experienced warrior…the list goes on. We (humans) tend to look at the problem, and in this case immediately recognize our shortcomings. We compare ourselves to the massive warrior standing at the ready before us, which is what we tend to do with all of our problems. David wasn’t afraid of Goliath because he never compared himself to Goliath. David compared Goliath to God. He KNEW God was with him! He knew he served a God that could rescue him from any challenge or trial.
Every time I come across an issue that seems unbeatable, I remind myself of this simple question and it immediately “centers” me and gets me focused and trusting solely on God.
Again, thank you for writing this and thank you for the beautiful prayer.
God bless you always.
