Lamentations 3:37-38 (Amplified)
Who is there who speaks and it comes to pass, unless the Lord has authorized and commanded it? Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that both adversity (misfortune) and good (prosperity, happiness) proceed?
Bad things are looming. It’s difficult to grasp that good and adversity come from God. Remember Romans 8:28:
We know that *all things* work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.
Lamentations confirms that even adversity is authorized from God. Paul’s letter to the Romans confirms everything is for our good.
All things.
Over the last 3 years we have seen entire industries collapse. We have watched millions become unemployed as thousands of businesses were closed, or worse, burned and vandalized. Our sense of security and life-rhythm has been turn upside down. We’ve seen our children become pawns to the sinister COVID Masters, masking them unnecessarily and injecting them with solutions that can kill them.
Every day, we learn of more dastardly plans the Puppet Masters are plotting – such as controllable digital currency (CBDC) and agreements by the G20 to require passports for international travel.
When God promised to work all things together for good, He didn’t mean that all of the events in our life would be easy, or that every event would be good. Some situations and events may be decidedly bad.
But God uses all things, the good and the bad, to weave the fabric of our life into the exact outcome He has designed for us. Our life experiences help us to evolve into the exact person He wants us to be. He has a master plan: We need to trust His plan. Put the outcome into His hands, and trust His timing.
When I think about ‘staying the course’ and ‘trusting God’s outcome no matter what,’ it draws me to think of the story of Joseph found in Genesis 37:
Joseph experienced a lifetime of bad things. When he was just 17 years old, he was sold into slavery by his brothers. Later, he was thrown in prison under false accusations. He lived in captivity for more than 13 long years, until God gifted him the ability to interpret dreams. His skills brought him to the Pharaoh. Impressed, Joseph was elevated to a position of full responsibility. He prepared Egypt for the coming severe famine by first growing and developing the land to a place of extreme abundance.
When the truth of Joseph’s identity was finally revealed to his brothers two years into the famine, Joseph said, (Genesis 45:78, Genesis 50:20)
“God sent me ahead of you to establish you as a remnant within the land and to keep you alive by a great deliverance. Therefore, it was not you who sent me here, but God…You planned evil against me; God planned it for good, to bring about the present result—the survival of many people.”
Joseph trusted God’s Plan his entire life. The Bible has no stories of Joseph questioning the separation from his family; resenting the evil deeds of his brothers; moaning about his years in slavery; boasting about his duties through the years of prosperity. He apparently lived each day dedicated to the Lord, trusting God’s timeline. He lived faithful to God and to God’s plan, until he died at 110 years of age.
Trust the Plan
The story of Joseph inspires me to work harder to not question my circumstances. I humanly struggle to trust all that is occurring in my life right now, big and small, is what God wants for me. I pray for strength to embrace the reality of the Grand Design. I repeatedly remind myself that I am being called “according to God’s purpose.”
So are you.
God’s plan will not fail you, no matter what it looks like to your eyes and no matter how long it takes.
And no matter how scary it may seem in the moment.
When we only have the ability to see one day at a time, remember God is the Alpha and Omega of our life. He knew us before we were born and knows the number of hairs on our head. He sees it all; we see one minute at a time. We need to trust that He has His hands on the steering wheel and practice tossing Him the keys. He is the GPS; we need to let go and let God fulfill His purpose in our lives.
Today’s Prayer:
Dear Lord, Your Word has lessons for us every day. Stories from the Old Testament inspire us as much today as they have for thousands of years.
Lord, remove our doubts. Stop us from second-guessing Your plan for our lives. Help us to have the courage to trust Your plan, no matter what it looks like to our human eyes. More importantly, give us the stamina to stay the course, no matter how long or how hard the road.
Lord, we believe You hear our prayerful petitions and ask that what we have prayed for may be granted. Please grant our petitions in the manner of, “this or something better.” When we keep our eyes fixed on You, we know that all things work together for our best interests and for the Greater Good of all Your people collectively. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
