Proverbs 6:16-19
Here are six things that the LORD hates; indeed seven are in fact, detestable to Him: Arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands shedding innocent blood; a heart crafting evil plans, feet running swiftly to wickedness, a false witness snorting lies, and someone sowing quarrels between brothers.
According to the NYTimes: Here and Here
Issue 1, as the Ohio ballot measure was known, had become the country’s most-watched race in the off-year elections, as both parties gauged whether voter anger over returning Roe vs. Wade to the states to decide on the right to an abortion. Would this help or hurt the Democrats in next year’s presidential and congressional races?
A year ago, the Democratic Party set out to turn Ohio blue by emphasizing the Republican Party’s opposition to abortion. In what has been labeled as a “landslide victory” the Ohio Constitution was changed to protect access to the procedure. The win lifted the hopes of abortion-rights groups which will be pushing similar measures next year in red and purple states, including Arizona, South Dakota, Missouri, and Florida.
The NYTs claimed that “most” Americans support widespread abortion access and will vote for ballot initiatives that protect or establish abortion rights.
This graphic shows the presumed concentration of Democrats and the concentration of money spent to ensure that Issue 1 was passed. More than an issue of abortion, the deeper part of Issue 1 limited a parent’s input into decisions related to gender reassignment treatment or surgery. I wonder how many who supported Issue 1 really understood those ramifications for their children and grandchildren?
While the Bible doesn’t say anything explicitly about abortions, a scholarly article written by Melanie Howard, Associate Professor of Biblical and Theological Studies at Fresno University and published at The Conversation states:
“The absence of an explicit reference to abortion, however, has not stopped its opponents or proponents from looking to the Bible for support of their positions.... Christians on both sides of the partisan divide have appealed to any number of texts to assert that their particular brand of politics is biblically backed. However, if they claim the Bible specifically condemns or approves of abortion, they are skewing the textual evidence to fit their position.”
Abortion is a hot political issue, firing up emotions on both sides, with many stating you can be simultaneously Christian and pro-choice. And many say the opposite. I debated about writing on this topic, but I feel so sad about the direction my state, Ohio, and my country, America, have taken, straying from God and Godly principles, I felt compelled in my spirit to address this.
What’s Happening to America?
The Bible says clearly in Exodus 23:7 and Proverbs 6:16-17 that it is wrong to kill innocent human beings. In fact, Proverbs 6 says that God hates the hands that shed innocent blood. Child sacrifice to Baal and Moloch throughout the Old Testament was an abomination and a serious sin among God’s people. Is abortion modern-day child sacrifice?
If the unborn ‘thing’ inside the uterus is kicking, responding to music, requiring both oxygen and nutrition, can undergo surgery, AND is growing, ‘it’ must be alive.
If we were created in God’s likeness and as God said in Jeremiah (1:5) “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart”, how can we celebrate the murder of the unborn?
Something to consider
When a nation is divided, what should we do? Pray.
A book updated for the current election season, If My People provides 40 days of prayers and reflections in the spirit of 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If My people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. "
This verse is as pertinent to Our Land today as it was during the time it was written. I wrote a substack about it in December 2022. This book is a prayer guide to remind us why it is "in God we still trust," but it also brings a greater sense of pride in and hope for our country, just when we need it most. With biblical and historical reminders of the power of prayer, I am enjoying this book.
Today’s prayer
Dear Father, we pray for a strong, spiritual leader after Your own heart to rise up to chastise the choices being made by our nation. Call us to repentance.
Time and time again, we’ve read in the Old Testament, how Your people, and now Jesus’ followers, have fallen away from Your word and Your laws. It’s time to clearly see what must be done to restore You to our lives, our homes, our country.
I’ve written somewhat about this here, here, and here. But I didn’t finish the last two parts of the series because even Your people, on this small list, didn’t seem to want to know how far we have drifted from Your ways. Your love and mercy abides for all eternity, but in the short term, I cringe at the thought of Your coming and rightful wrath.
Help us to have the courage to share Your word with all who have ears to listen, while there is still time. In Jesus’ name, Amen and Amen.
As a lifelong Ohioian, this makes me so very sad. That people can rejoice at the killing of innocent lives is sickening.
Thank you for writing this, Dr. Tenpenny. As an Ohio resident I was mortified by the outcome of the vote on issue 1. Sadly, many churches were silent on the issue. Had they spoken up there may have been a different outcome. I feel that there is blood on the hands of those silent pastors. May they feel some level of guilt for being silent. The church in America has become what is described in the book of Jude is the apostate church predicted for the last days. Praying for boldness for church, the removal of weak pastors and weak church leadership to be replaced with pastors and leadership that do not shy away from God‘s truth. Sadly, the spirit of Molock has now been unleashed in the state of Ohio. It’s going to get interesting.😔🙏
