Job 42:2
Then Job answered the Lord and said, “I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.”
The Book of Job is quite long, and Chapter 42 is when Job’s testing is coming to an end. He speaks out to God and as a testament to his faith and trust in God, acknowledges that God can do all things, at all times....and His purpose will not be thwarted.
Thwart is a word not commonly used today. Thwart is a verb that means:
To prevent the occurrence, realization, or attainment of
To oppose and defeat the efforts, plans, or ambitions of (someone).
Put into modern language, this verse can read like this:
Then Job answered the Lord and said, “I know that You can do all things, And that no purpose or plans of Yours can be prevented, opposed or defeated.”
Isn't this exactly what we need to cling to in these uncertain times?
God isn't a crisis manager who responds to events in reactionary ways. He isn’t surprised by the situations blaring across the media outlets. He isn’t perplexed by our problems or our blunders. Nor is He taken by surprise by bombs, explosions, or what are described as “random acts of violence.”
The Bible tells us over and over again that God can do all things...and that we are to be the Lord’s representatives in all that we do. We just need to ask, to trust, and to wait expectantly. Once God places His purpose on your heart and in the center of our life, and we need to follow His lead. As was said in Isaiah 6:8 -
Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
Once you take action together - you and Jesus on the playing field - your cooperative plans can never be stopped.
Today’s Prayer:
Make Your plan for my life clear, Dear Lord, so I know I am following Your Calling and not trying to figure it out on my own.
I know that no matter what I do, You will guide the path and be with me every step of the way. Your purpose will not be thwarted. Your plan will not be defeated. I know that the best Plans unfold in Your timeline, but I request that You not tarry long and that You will bring the plans to fruition in a timely manner. I ask for clarity, guidance, understanding, and of course, patience to wait on You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
