Leviticus 20:6
“If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.”

Note: Some of you may be offended by this post. God has put this on my heart for a while. Based on a few conversations I had the last two weeks with people I know and care about, it felt like the right time to write it. Listen to what the Holy Spirit tells you about it. Look up the verses and read for yourself.~~Dr. T
Everything we are facing — economic crises, political crises, financial crises, familial crises — goes much deeper than what’s on the surface. Put another way, if you can see it, things changed to allow it to happen long ago, months to years. It has been published multiple times that it takes an average of 17 years for a new, helpful finding from research to reach clinical practice. The World Economic Forum openly states it has been working on its globalization plan for more than 50 years. The satanic minions moving full force across the planet right now have been waiting for their “right time” since The Garden, thousands of years ago.
In the Old Testament, when God’s people departed from Him, judgment followed soon after. When both the Northern and Southern Kingdoms of Israel and Judah were conquered, shortly thereafter, all of God’s people were taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, because they did not continue to worship the one true, living God. They were held in exile for 70 years. Many believe the disruptions we are experiencing now have been allowed in order to precipitate a spiritual realignment and center us back toward God.
Because God’s people no longer take Him seriously, choosing to dishonor Him and drift away, will He let them experience the consequences of their behavior and see what life looked like without His provision? What about HIS people who have drifted away or accepted a “blend” of New Agey practices as being OK and interpreting His Word as they see fit, through some new guru? Meditation is just a bigger, broader way to communicate with the frequency of the Universe and the Universal God, right?
Dead wrong.
Romans 1:21-25 describes what happens when an individual, family, church, or nation drifts away, or actively runs away, from God:
For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to Him. Instead, their thoughts turned to worthless things, and their senseless hearts were darkened. Though claiming to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images that looked like mortal human beings, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles.
For this reason, God delivered them to sexual impurity as they followed the lusts of their hearts and dishonored their bodies with one another. They exchanged God's truth for a lie and worshipped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.
What happens when God’s hand of protection is lifted from HIS disobedient people?
The next passages, Romans 1:28-31, spell it out quite clearly (emphasis mine)
God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting, filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, malice, full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers, backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful. -WEB
It is as if God has said, “If you don’t want Me, you’re going to have to see what life is like without Me.” Scripture says God turned them over to impurity, to disgraceful passions, and to a corrupt mind. I wrote previous substacks on it here and here.
New Age Practices and Christianity
To be a Christian is to be a follower of Christ and to understand that God’s love letter to us, His Bible, is everything we need. A lot of people who call themselves Christians also seek information from their spirit guides, get astrology readings, and go to their yoga classes (You can read about the popular pagan, Hindu-based practice here. Don’t shoot the messenger!!)
The Israelites had replaced “the true God” with idols. For today’s New Agey Christian, Christ and the Bible are not enough.
According to Wikipedia: (shortened)
New Age is a range of spiritual or religious practices and beliefs that rapidly grew in Western society during the early 1970s. Its highly eclectic and unsystematic structure makes a precise definition difficult.... The New Age worldview emphasizes holism and the idea that everything in existence is intricately connected as part of a single whole, in doing so rejecting both the dualism of the Christian division of matter and spirit and the reductionism of Cartesian science. The idea of holistic divinity results in a common New Age belief that humans themselves are divine in essence, a concept described using such terms as "droplet of divinity", "inner Godhead", and "divine self".
Influenced by Theosophical and Anthroposophical ideas regarding 'subtle bodies', a common New Age idea holds to the existence of a "Higher Self" that is a part of the human but connects with the divine essence of the universe, and which can advise the human mind through intuition.
I know a bit about this.
I grew up in a Bible-teaching Christian home. Then, for about 25 years, I wandered from belief practice to belief practice, looking for something to fill the wanting in my spirit. In my humble opinion, this is why people jump from guru to guru. I was looking for something true. Something that I could trust and would unchangingly fill my heart. It wasn’t until 2019, when a friend pulled me by the ear for prayer and other things, that I started to believe God was real and He could actually love me. On 1-1-2020, on a plane returning from St. Thomas, the Holy Spirit moved on me, and I said, “Ok, God. I’m all in and all Yours.” Little did I know how He was going to use me over the next three years to help guide His people through COVID-19 and more.
A New Agey Christian can’t wrap their minds (and hearts?) around the simplicity of this first step and then grow to learn the magnificence of what God has given us through His son. There MUST be something more; something deeper; something more exciting; more secret and mysterious.
Guess what? His death and resurrection fulfilled it all. ALL.
What does the Bible say about these practices?
This section is paraphrased from an article by Larry White, pastor of Community United Methodist Church in Marathon, FL and writer for BibleStudyTools.com:
A psychic is someone who attempts to explain things without obvious answers via metaphysical methods such as telekinesis, ESP, or clairvoyance. Related to this, a fortune teller is someone who practices divination, or the ability to see spiritual significance in mundane things such as reading tea leaves, reading the lines in a person’s palm, reading the cracks in bones, seeing patterns in the surface ripples of certain liquids or using tarot cards to read the future. A spiritual guide is often used as a personal angel instead of talking with Jesus. Astrology started out in the ancient world as a study of the stars. Over time, it became a spiritual endeavor, and much like fortune-telling, it became a form of divination.
A New Age-tilted Christian seems to think many, if not all of these, are okay. As long as they say they “believe” in Jesus, have been baptized, and go to church (or its equivalent) on Sunday, these other spiritual practices are just warm, fuzzy, ‘value-added’ connections with God.
However, these practices are always condemned without exception in the Bible. God doesn’t give wiggle room. He has made plain statements about how these practices are detestable in His eyes. They are an affront because we are not dedicated to HIM. After all, the 1st Commandment is, “I AM the Lord thy God. You will have no other gods before me.” And the 2nd Commandment? ‘You shall have no idols.’
What else does the Bible say?
Here are a few of the myriad of places in God’s Word that condemn such activity. (emphasis mine)
Deuteronomy 18:9-12
When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord.
o Note: Necromancy is the practice of communicating with the dead, or invoking their spirits for the purpose of divination. It is done to foretell the future or discover hidden knowledge from the spirit world.
Leviticus 20:6
If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.
Note: “Whoring after them” is a yearning or lusting after a different type of worldly knowledge. It is interpreted to mean fidelity toward God has been transferred to a different ‘god’. It is an abandonment of God for other gods.
2 Corinthians 11:14
And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no great surprise if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness, but their end will correspond with their deeds.
1 Timothy 4:1
Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons.
So, What is Our God?
For starters, God is not a frequency or an energy.
God is not a thing among other things. He is not an object somewhere in the universe, for He is the Creator of all things.
God is holy and to be worshipped as such. We are not to be worshipping false gods, including Mother Nature.
God is omnipotent (all-powerful). He created the flora and the fauna and the rivers and the rocks. He is not a flower or an elephant. He is sovereign over them.
God is omniscient (all-knowing). This means God is knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and truth.
Most importantly, God is love. God displays intense, unchanging love to us through out relationship with Jesus, His son. Second Corinthians 5:19 says that the world was reconciled to God through the death of Jesus Christ.
Mediums, astrologers, diviners, psychics, and other mystical magi are practicing things that Christians should avoid. We cannot live by the desire of God for our lives and completely depend upon His grace in all things if we’re trying to know what the future holds by using divination.
There are probably more for these practices than I’ve listed here. These are not toys or cute things to play around with. If you know the Lord, and you’ve been partaking with these New Age tools, stop. You can’t walk in both worlds, God’s love and paganistic practices. Ask God’s forgiveness, then go and sin no more. He loves you. He is sufficient. Remember that Jesus himself said, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”- Matthew 7:13-14
Today's prayer
Dear Father, sometimes we commit sins of omission – an activity we forgot to do – and sometimes we commit sins of commission – activities we actively participate in something we shouldn’t be doing. We humbly ask your forgiveness for both. We love You and want to serve You better. Show us the errors of our ways and forgive any resistance we feel to the correction. Uncover our blind spots that, by definition, we cannot see. Thank you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Excellent article Dr. Sherri!! About 15 years ago I started a meditation class to help reduce my stress at work. One of the primary things that I wanted to make sure about this meditation class and the practitioner was that she believed in God. As time went by, I realized she and many of the participants had a different version. They knew of my strong beliefs in God, and one day it became very apparent they were not walking with our Heavenly Father. I challenged them to start reading the Bible and truly understand that many of their beliefs were dangerous. When they challenged my faith, I knew that moment it was the last time I would ever go there. Another Christian participant also knew that day would be my last time. It was so clear that I had no doubt God gave me that incite and vision to see what they were doing was crossing too many lines. One gal had lost her son years earlier from an illness and she was unable to get to him before he died as he was out of town. She thought she could use all this new age Christianity to connect to him. I also saw how there were also very dark spirits that would surround others who had no faith attending these classes. It was not somewhere I wanted to continue. I warned the practitioner about what she was doing and she was too interested in growing the class rather than realizing she was dealing with something very dark spiritually. We had become very good friends, but she didn’t want to consider what I was warning her about. Several years later our pastor was going to hire her for a church led meditation. As I was on the church board, I warned him about these classes and that they should not continue them. Anything we did had to be Bible based, not the let’s put it out in the Universe mentality. Fortunately he followed my advice and thanked me for looking out for our church. It was the last time she ever came. This was a very timely written warning Dr. Sherri and one people need to see.
I woke up expectantly, - anxious to read what you would say to us this Sunday morning - hoping & praying it would be about this very topic. I am so grateful, dear Dr. Tenpenny. It's exactly what I
was hopeing you might cover. Narrow is the path. There are not many, there is but ONE. - & we shall rejoice in Him. In these perilous days, confirmation is especially valued & appreciated. I pray for your complete healing & restoration. Amen.
